What Do Fleas Look Like?

This is a flea under a microscope! Of course, you won't be able to see anything like this detail. If you see a flea at all, it will be a very tiny, reddish brown insect.

You CAN see them jump! If your dog has fleas and you bath him in dog flea shampoo, you might even see them jump off him, very quickly - I have a very strong memory of watching fleas jump off my family's labrador while helping to give her a bath!

One test for fleas (I haven't tried this) is to wear clean white socks in a room which you think might have a flea infestation. Fleas are attracted to vibrations and will jump towards you, looking for a new host. You should be able to see them on your socks!
